When it comes to superhero movies, I’m usually about 80% excited and 20% skeptical. I love comic books, Marvel in particular, and I love movies. What’s better than comic book movies? Let’s be honest, superhero/comic book movies run pretty much the entire spectrum from rage inducing trash (X-Men: Origins) to nirvana (I’m looking at you Amazing Spider-man. I best not be let down.) Generally, it’s a pretty even split, so that’s where my skepticism comes in. Given the cast and the heroes involved, I’m pretty damn excited for the Avengers movie (in fact I’ve been incredibly excited since I got wind of it a couple years ago)
Brendon is excited for an entirely different reason; Joss Whedon is directing it. Some of you may not be familiar with the name, but those of you who are aware of him, are probably equally as excited as Brendon. Joss Whedon is the man behind the TV series Buffy the Vampire Slayer (hey, fuck off, it’s a great show), Angel, and probably most notably Firefly (which spawned a feature film and multiple comic books to keep the rabid fanbase from rioting in the streets over Firefly’s woefully early cancellation.)
Basically, Joss Whedon fans (or Whedonites, as they call themselves) are rabidly devoted to the man. It’s almost a religion.
To be honest, I’m pretty excited as well. I’m also (although not as rabid as Brendon) a fan of Joss Whedon. I’m willing to overlook Alien Ressurection.
Oh, and if you haven’t seen the trailer in question, shame on you.
(Nine Inch Nails sure doesn’t hurt it one bit.)
